Digital Marketing 101 Q&A – Question #1

I was asked to be part of an education event for start-up businesses on Twitter.

As part of this event, I was one of eight experts who provided answers to a series of questions about Digital Marketing. In this week’s Quick Video tip I address the following question:

Hi, it’s Jen DeTracey, the founder of LIFT Strategies, one of Canada’s Top Marketing Strategists, and the author of the book LIFT Strategies: Quick Tips to Engage Customers and Elevate Profits.

Now, in this week’s quick tip, I want to talk about an event that I was asked to be a part of. This whole event was on Twitter. I was one of the experts that tweeted on Digital Marketing 101 and people could go the hashtag #StartupChats and watch the entire thread of questions and answers.

I had a list of questions that I was asked along with 7 or 8 other experts. We responded to each question over the course of an hour. It’s a cool concept. I’d never been a part of this before I started working with StartupChats and it’s very, very exciting. One of the questions that was asked in Digital Marketing 101 was “What is digital marketing?”

The truth is everybody that is a business or is in marketing is going to have a slightly different answer, so I want to give my answer to that question.

I believe that digital marketing is using online marketing platforms in order to strategically promote your business and your brand. You might say well, OK … Website a online, is a digital marketing? Well, it’s only digital marketing if you are engaging with prospects and clients using your website. For example, if you have a blog on your website, then and your posting on your blog, then that would be a form of digital media or digital marketing, I should say.

That is this week’s quick tip. Next week and the following weeks, I will go through answering a series of questions from this StartupChats event that I was involved in. I’ll see you next week.
