Expanding Tolerance

I decided to work on developing a higher level of tolerance for myself and others. In order to do so, I joined a once-a-year program in the fall of 2012 called “Expanding Your Windows of Tolerance.”

Over the past month, I have found numerous opportunities where my tolerance levels were tested. It’s interesting to see how it happens in waves. Waves of stress, change, disappointment, celebration and joy can be some of the trends which can occur.

With the support of the community I have developed and the personal growth work I have done, I have discovered some new windows of tolerance. Since my life has so many windows, I recognize tolerance doesn’t expand in every single one:). That said, seeing the results of how I am better able to cope with or manage something which was once very upsetting to me is a great gift.

Do you have a strategy that has worked for you?

I’d love to hear about your experience.

P.S. If you want to know more about this program you can check out Sarah Peyton and Eric Bowers’ websites. They are the two facilators of this program.

  1. The more I open up to people, the more I realize that we all share so many of the same difficult experiences and emotions and this helps me be more tolerant. We are more alike than not.
