Catchy Media Story

Grab the media’s attention with a catchy story idea part 1

Know what the media want? More of what they already have – that’s what. If they are running profiles of local businesspeople in your community weekly, they’ll likely need more of these. Can you fit into an existing series in any way?

Media also like info that:

· Affects a lot of people and has an impact on the community – positive or negative

· Involves money – in particular government waste or spending

· Incorporates numbers – relevant statistics and their sources are often of interest to the media

Is there any way you things you are doing fit in any of these categories? For example, if you run a doggy obedience school, do you have stats on what percentage of puppy owners make use of training programs? This would be a good opener.

Next time: More on what makes a news story.
