Using Keywords
“Build it and they will come” is a great movie concept, but you should expect to have to market your blog to build readership. One of the most effective ways to build readership is to set your blog up in such a way that readers can easily come across it via organic searches in Google or another search engine.
When you search using a search engine, that’s an organic search, and the words you use to find your target are keywords. Take some time to build a list of words and phrases that you think your readers would use to find your blog. Try to be specific. You want to attract readers who are interested in your topic and you don’t want to have to compete for common words.
To do this, start with a list of ten to fifteen words or phrases and incorporate them into the title and body of your blog. These are the words you add into the Tag field when you manage your blog using WordPress.
Test your keyword assumptions. Which ones are most effective? Where are your readers coming from?
