Hi, this is Jen DeTracey, the Founder of LIFT Strategies, One of Canada’s Top Marketing Strategists and the author of the book, Lift Strategies – Quick Tips to Engage Customers and Elevate Profits.

We are on question number three of Digital Marketing 101. The question today is: “Why should start-ups engage in digital marketing?”

I want to extend it further to businesses that have been in business for two years, five years, 10 years, and haven’t really fully dug into engaging in digital marketing, as well.

As a business owner, you have a couple of resources available to you. You may have money, to do marketing, and time, and then there’s energy. We’ll just focus on time and money. If you don’t have a lot of money to marketing your business, then you need to carve out time. If you have money, you can pay somebody else to do the marketing for you.

Why should you engaged in social media?

It can be an extremely affordable way to get your brand and expertise into the marketplace, if you know how to do it properly.

If you’re just getting started in business, or you’re in the early years, it’s a great opportunity for you to be part of a network of business owners that are disseminating their information out, whether it be through Twitter, or LinkedIn, or Facebook, or any other method that is prominent with your customers or target audience. That is the main reason you want to do it.

I will get into more reasons as we move through each of the questions each week. That is the answer to question number three.
